Overview

This refined and very thoughtfully styled villa in Ahangama has been restored and extended from a village house built in Dutch colonial style - proud classical pillars and all.

It sits just a few hundred metres from the beaches of Ahangama and, though neatly and privately tucked away, is in prime position for paying guests too - a (very) short walk to the likes of The Kip, one of the town’s favourite spots.

The main house has two large bedrooms, each with an ensuite bathroom that open to outdoor shower areas. The larger of the two bedrooms opens directly onto the main garden, while the second bedroom can be accessed privately from the back of the house.

A well-sized and well-fitted kitchen has plenty of built-in storage and runs to a smaller storage/‘staff area’ and third washroom.

Through a characterful archway - a feature of the original house - the kitchen flows into a central sitting room which in turn runs to the large dining room, a conversion from the old verandah.   • A little pre- and certainly post-Covid, creative hospitality folks started reaching Ahangama, developing attractive new spots for eating, drinking, surfing and sleeping.

    It’s now the go-to destination for a certain crowd coming to Sri Lanka and earning an international reputation for its laid-back tropical style, not to mention gorgeous beaches and views over supreme-green rice paddy fields a little inland.

  • As above, the house is set just back - approx. 400 metres walk - from the coast road, with beaches just the other side.

    Galle - offering a good international school and good hospital - is a drive of around 25 minutes heading West. Weligama is slightly closer, in the other direction, for a good-sized supermarket.

    The Southern Expressway brings central Colombo and the International Airport comfortably within a two and a half hour drive.

  • The current owners conceived and built the house with a view to spending part of their time there and otherwise renting it to short-term guests.

    Such has been its popularity that they now spend very little (if any) time living at the property. They have built a neat and well thought-of brand and any new owner would have the option to retain that, leveraging it for continued good occupancy.
