Who’s who

Good hospitality is of course so much about the people delivering it, so here’s a little background on each of us.

We have a small principal team that work day to day on villa and boutique management and then a wider network of friends and partners that we call on whenever needed.

  • Lara has lived and worked in Sri Lanka for the last 7 years, originally developing product and guest experience for Soul & Surf in Ahangama before directly managing high end villas along the South Coast. (The likes of On Houses, Cove House, and The Lookout.)

She is dedicated to responsible hospitality that supports Sri Lankan culture and community, all with an underlying understanding of and commitment to delivering a unique and high quality experience for guests.

Lara has primary responsibility for on-site operations, staff management, guest experience and overall product.

  • Max moved to Sri Lanka from the UK in 2013. He oversaw the renovation and development of two boutique hotels near Kandy before focusing on management for those properties and others across the island.

A Covid-led pause saw him lean back into his London-based property and marketing experience with the formation of The New Sri Lankan House.

Max has primary responsibility for "back-office" systems, finance and accounts, and marketing as required.

  • Sasanka is a Performance Marketing Specialist equally happy advising international blue chip clients or budding blue-chips of the startup and hospitality world.

For those of us not so familiar, “Performance Marketing” refers to digital strategies that cost relative to how they perform - so pay-per-click or pay-per-view. Good strategies, in many cases, for boutique villas and hotels that may not have huge marketing budgets but want to be pro-active and thoughtful in how they reach the right potential guests.

  • Samudra moved back to Sri Lanka having grown up and studied in Kuwait.

With a background in automotive design he has a sharp mind for detail and, more recently in property and real estate, has turned that to project oversight and management with excellent results.

Samudra oversees development of the teams we work with as well as special projects giving clients (and us) a really clear view of goals and progress.

  • Our primary F&B consultant is so in demand amongst boutique hoteliers and would-be restauranteurs that we’re not naming her here for fear of causing upset.

Half English and half Sri Lankan she learned her trade with Michelin-starred chefs in London before launching her own much-acclaimed restaurant here.

She brings a passion for local food and a unique understanding of how to get the best out of kitchen teams maybe not so familiar with non-Sri Lankan flavours and styles.

  • Aravinda is our man on the ground, ever-ready to pick up the phone, jump on the scooter and dive into any task (or occasional emergency) and assist for a happy resolution.

Born and brought up in Matale, in the hills near Kandy, Aravinda developed a passion for hiking and guiding, primarily in the Knuckles Mountains. That experience led him into property management - work that’s seen him run boutique yoga retreats and bustling beachfront hotels.
