Overview
A gorgeously positioned beach villa that sits between a pretty lagoon and miles of the almost untouched sand of Rekawa Beach a little beyond Tangalle on Sri Lanka’s beautiful Southern Coast.
The house was completed in 2018, its construction a major undertaking given the full day’s travel needed at that time to reach the property from Colombo. Originally conceived as a private holiday home it is now rented for short-stay guests and, with this Southern corner of the island ever more in demand, and much more easily reached, it attracts a good number of paying visitors.
The house is on two levels with the main living spaces on the ground floor. A large open plan living and dinging area opens onto a terrace that overlooks the pool and beach beyond. Upstairs, there are four ensuite bedrooms, three of which have balconies overlooking the ocean. A further, slightly smaller bedroom is on the ground floor.

Rekawa Beach offers a stunning long stretch of quiet golden sand, well away from the bustle of the main coastal road which passes a few kilometres inland.
There has been some development in recent years but uncertainty over title for some plots has put a dampener on any rapid change along a good part of the beach.

As said, even fairly recently developing property at Rekawa would have been only for the very committed, and slightly ambitious.
Travel times now, though, with the Southern Expressway are far more manageable - Colombo and the International Airport comfortably within three hours drive.
That much improved access has opened the area for better numbers of visitors. Proximity, also, to the likes of Yala National Park and several other nearby wildlife sanctuaries make this South-Eastern part of the coastline an attractive destination.
