This is one of those archetypal Galle Fort properties, quiet and discreet on the outside but grandly spaced and more than a little luxurious once inside.

The house opens to an extensive living and dining space, light and bright with a thirty foot high, vaulted ceiling and opening fully to the garden, itself quite large for a town house in the heart of the Fort.

Galle Fort is a sort of wonderful anomaly in Sri Lankan urban life; a little haven of boutiques, cafes and gem stores. Its reinvention as a chic and popular tourist destination started some thirty years ago but continues today with new openings and restorations making the most of beautiful, if for a while unloved, Dutch and Portuguese architecture.
The villa sits in the heart of Galle Fort, about 150 metres from the west-facing rampart, overlooking the ocean.
Galle in turn, sitting at the South-Western corner of Sri Lanka is now easily accessed by the Southern Expressway. Within 15 minutes you can be on the highway and from there, reaching central Colombo or the International Airport in an hour and a half.
The current owners offer the villa on a rental basis for, mostly, short-stay visitors. They have a reliable team in place and, with the Fort ever-popular, new owners could expect a good occupancy and income.
A new owner wanting to make regular use of the house might consider keeping the upper level for their own private use - that split good living space upstairs potentially working very well.
